Rye Residents Donate More To Romney Than Obama

RYE BROOK, N.Y. – Rye Brook, Rye and Port Chester residents contributed overwhelmingly to Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney over President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, with more than $319,000 in donations.

Overall in New York State, Romney has raised $11,960,903, according to OpenSecrets.org , a project of the Center for Responsive Politics. The research group, based in Washington, D.C., is tracking money in U.S. politics.

According to the center, New York State donors contribute the second highest amount of campaign dollars to both candidates. Both receive the most contributions from California donors.

The center indicates that Rye residents contribute 50 times as much as the average zip code in the United States. Rye Brook and Port Chester residents contribute nine times as much as the average zip code.

In Rye Brook and Port Chester, Romney’s individual campaign has raised $25,675. The highest contributions came from Steven Cohen of Elliott Management Corporation with $2,500 and John Doyle of Wexford Capital who also donated $2,500.

In Rye, residents have contributed $294,000 to Romney’s campaign. The highest individual amounts donated came from Dwight Anderson of Ospraie Management with $2,500, Scott Barringer of Goldman Sachs with $2,500 and Michael Aronstein of Marketfield Asset Management with $2,500.

For the Obama campaign, in Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester, more than $141,000 was donated. In New York State overall as of Aug. 6, Obama has raised $17,006,259. Obama received about $127,901 from Rye residents and $13,400 from Rye Brook and Port Chester residents during the election cycle.

The largest donations to the Obama campaign in Rye were from former New York Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni who donated $5,000 total to the Obama campaign. Peter Beshar, executive vice president of Marsh & McLennan Companies donated $2,500. Rye Brook resident Emily N. Sussman of the Service Members Legal Defense Network donated $2,500. Senior Vice President of Scholastic’s E-Commerce Group Jenny Frost contributed $2,000 to Obama’s campaign.
