RYE, N.Y. – Julie Killian was sworn in Wednesday evening to an interim appointment to the Rye City Council by Rye Judge Joseph Latwin at the council's capital projects bond workshop.
Killian, a 20-year resident of Rye, was appointed to fill the seat of former council member Suzanna Keith by a vote of 5-0, with council member Catherine Parker abstaining, at the council's meeting last week.
Keith, who resigned in late May, is relocating her family to Houston this month.
To retain her seat on the council, Killian will have to win election in November and again in November 2013. Killian was chosen over Rye residents Charmian Neary and Jason Mehler.
