John Holmes owns New England Sportswear, a police and fire uniform store in White Plains. He is charged with submitting a fraudulent letter of warranty on March 4 to Rye City that indicated it was written by the owner of a public safety clothing manufacturer in Massachusetts, Blauer Manufacturing Inc., the DA said.

According to the DA, the letter was addressed to “Jack” at New England Sportswear and read: “Blauer will provide a warranty on new garments purchased that its styles will be free from defects in workmanship or materials for a period of one year provided the garments are properly cared for, used, cleaned and following care tag labels.”

The city requires a product warranty for companies that it considers for its uniform contract.

The warranty was not provided by Blauer and New England Sportswear is not an authorized vendor for products sold by the Massachusetts company, DiFiore said in the statement.

Holmes was arrested and charged with first-degree offering a false instrument for filling and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, both felonies. He was given $1,500 bail and is due in court May 7.

He faces a maximum sentence of four years in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Brian Conway, Deputy Chief of the Public Integrity Bureau is prosecuting the case.
