On Tuesday, acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced that Dimas Pedro, 33, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of second-degree attempted murder.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 22, 2014, Pedro entered Phoenix Deli on Lawrence Street in Yonkers with a semi-automatic weapon. According to McCarty, he then “pointed the gun at the victim and began shooting at him in close range, continuing to shoot after the victim fell to the ground.”

Pedro’s victim was struck in the right thigh and outside of the collarbone. The injuries left him permanently paralyzed from the waist down.

The two had been acquaintances who had been in a prior dispute. Pedro was arrested by Yonkers detectives later that day. In addition to his prison term, he will undergo five years of post-release supervision.
