Detective Joseph Verille was behind the wheel on April 19, 2012 when his unmarked police car struck the back of Louis Jeanette’s vehicle near Exit 8 on Interstate 684, the site reported.

Former state Supreme Court Justice Louis Barone signed the arbitration award on Aug. 1 after Jeanette and his wife, Lynne, filed suit against Verille and the city, according to the report.

Rye City Manager Marcus Serrano told the site that the city will appeal the decision.
