Rye Teens Accused Of Hazing Back In Court Tuesday

RYE, N.Y. – The three Rye High School students accused of hazing eighth-graders will be back in Rye City Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The three – Max Meyerson, 16, Sean Pinson, 17, and Tristan Scragg, 17 – were arrested June 1 on a felony charge of second-degree assault and two misdemeanor charges of hazing and unlawful imprisonment. The Westchester County police and the Rye Police Department investigated the incident.

The case was adjourned July 21 at the request of the teens' attorneys, a court official said.

According to a statement made in June by Westchester Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth, the three juniors at Rye High School forced several incoming freshman students into a car in front of the Rye Free Reading Room, then drove to the Marshlands Conservancy in Rye. They then allegedly used a large piece of wood to paddle two victims, which caused bruising and other injuries to their buttocks and legs. One of the victims was treated at a hospital for his injuries.

At the teens’ arraignment June 12, all three pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor hazing and unlawful imprisonment charges. No plea was entered on the assault charges.
