RYE, N.Y. -- A man was arrested Wednesday night on felony drug charges in Rye after police said he was found with 2.3 pounds of cocaine in his car.

Detective Emil Garcia, of the Westchester County Police, stopped a van on Playland Parkway for a traffic violation at 9:15 p.m., according to Public Information Officer Kieran O'Leary. Garcia allegedly detected the odor of marijuana and requested the assistance of Detective Mark Carey and narcotics detection canine Philly.

A passenger in the car was found with a small amount of marijuana, according to O'Leary. The passenger was issued a summons for unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Police said Philly also detected the presence of narcotics in a bag belonging to another passenger, 24 year-old Rafael Marte of Manhattan.

Inside the bag were three aluminum cans labeled as pinto or kidney beans, police said. County police took Marte into custody and obtained a search warrant for the cans. When police opened the cans, they found three separate packages of cocaine totaling 2.3 pounds, according to O'Leary.

Marte was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony. He is being held without bail at Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.
