RYE, N.Y. -- A garbage truck clipped the Metro-North bridge that goes over Purchase Street on Wednesday afternoon, causing a large hydraulic oil spill, according to Rye police.

Lt. Scott Craig, a Rye police spokesman, said the collision ruptured a hydraulic oil hose on top of the garbage truck. Rye police, Rye firefighters, MTA police and Rye Department of Public Works crews responded.

Purchase Street, Purdy Avenue and McCullough Place -- which adjoins the Rye train station --  were closed momentarily to allow the fire department to apply an absorbent material to help clean the oil up, Lt. Craig said.
