RYE, N.Y. -- Rye firefighters responded to the Con Edison facility on Theodore Fremd Avenue near North Street on Tuesday after one of the utility company's bucket trucks caught fire.
No one was injured as a result of the fire, which occurred during a 10 a.m. safety test on the truck, according to Con Edison spokesman Bob McGee.
McGee said workers were running a controlled test on the truck's insulation, exposing it to high-voltage wires, when the fire started.
The spokesman said the fire is actually good news: The failed test means the truck's bucket needs more insulation to protect utility workers when they respond to downed power lines and other electrical emergencies, McGee said.
