1) 2015 Town of Rye Budget Passed. The 2015 Town of Rye budget passed unanimously 5-0, but buried in the budget and touched on in the public discussions are issues which will be the subject of ongoing public and private debate and the campaign for Rye Town offices in 2015.

2) A Small Step Toward Government Downsizing. The Town Board was apprised by Assessor Denise Knauer that the Village of Mamaroneck had eliminated its property assessing function and would in the future rely on the Rye Town Assessment Office’s numbers for Rye Neck. Because the Village of Mamaroneck and Rye Town have different property rolls, a fair amount of work will need to be conducted to reconcile those properties where the records differ. The expectation is that about 10 percent of the 2,300 properties will need to be reconciled.

3) Proceeds Of Sale Of Rye Town Hall. Now that the Rye Town Hall has been sold, and the proceeds banked, Supervisor Joe Carvin suggested that some of the money ($900,000) be used for capital improvements at Rye Town Park and at Crawford Park. He asked Councilman Bob Nioras if he (Nioras) could revisit the study he did some years ago showing the extent of capital improvements needed.

4) Odds and Ends 1) Town Attorney Paul Noto reported that enough property owners, faced with foreclosure, have paid their back taxes that the number of “problem” properties has been reduced to four or five. 2) Supervisor of Highways John DeCrescenzo told the board that he was having difficulty finding contractors who would paint the Otter Creek Bridge. If he could not find a vendor at a reasonable cost, DeCrescenzo postulated that he might recruit volunteers to paint the bridge. 3) Deputy Supervisor Bill Villanova reported that 12 extra burial plots for town veterans, prepaid, had been discovered in the records of the Greenwood Cemetery. This news, he said, would be greeted gratefully by the Town’s aging military veterans.
