William G. Klein, 89, Rye Resident

RYE, N.Y. -- William Gerard Klein, of Rye, died on Sunday, March 6. He was 89.

Born in New York City, Klein was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. After the war, he joined the Naval Reserves, earning top-secret clearance and retiring as a lieutenant commander.

Klein graduated from Fordham University, earned an MBA at NYU and later earned a second master's in history at Fordham. He worked for the NYS Life Insurance Department, retiring as chief examiner. He was a member of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, the Rye Historical Society, the Military Officers Association of America, and the Retired Reserve Officers Associate of Westchester.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Rees) Klein; sons William Rhys and Dr. John Jude Gurnee; granddaughters Maria and Gianna. Klein was predeceased by his parents, William Francis and Florence Irene Gurnee Klein.

Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 11, at the Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Boston Post Rd., in Rye. A mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the Church of the Resurrection.
