Theresa Avery, Of Rye, 89

RYE, N.Y. -- Theresa Crowley Avery, a former Rye resident, died Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Garden of Health in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., surrounded by family. She was 89.

Born July 22, 1925 in Larchmont, she was the daughter of Fenton V. Crowley and Sarah Daniels Crowley. She married her sweetheart and best friend Edwin C. Avery Sr. on Feb. 25, 1945. 

Avery dedicated her life to her family, the church and all the children she educated during many years as a teacher at Holy Trinity School and the Corpus Christi School.

She is survived by five children: Audrey Marie O'Brien (Joe), Ayn Marie Avery (Joe), Alice Marie Avery (Al), Edwin C. Avery Jr. (Cathy) and Annabelle Marie Strozza (Jeff). She had 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son Alan C. Avery, who died suddenly Aug. 29, 1980 and her husband Avery Sr., who died May 12, 2002.

The wake will be Friday, Jan. 30 from 4-8 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Boston Post Road, Rye. A funeral Mass will follow Saturday at Resurrection Church in Rye at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends may send memorial donations in her name to Intrepid Educational Scholarship Fund, Pier 86, 12th Ave. and 46th St., New York, NY 10036.
