Mary A. Thomas, Of Rye, 84

RYE, N.Y. -- Mary Thomas (Lammers), a Rye resident, died with her family at her side on Friday, Feb. 20, in Rye. She was 84.

Thomas was born in her parents' farmhouse on Dec. 20, 1930, in Leipsic, Ohio. Her mother was Clara Plumpe Lammers, and her father was Alphonse Lammers. Both are deceased. She was married to the love of her life, Richard Francis Thomas, for 53 years. He died in 2011.

Thomas experienced life to the fullest. She was creative and inquisitive; she pursued her roles and causes with a passion. She worked for the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, and IBM in White Plains for many years. After helping her children obtain college degrees, she returned to college and earned a degree in art history in 1993 from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore.

Mary and Richard raised four children, who were with her when she died: Steve of Minneapolis, Anne of Newton, Mass., Amy of White Plains and Mary Beth of Hartsdale.

Thomas' son John died as an infant in 1969. She cherished her grandchildren, Jim, Michelle, Amanda, Laura and Sarah; and her great-grandchildren, William and John.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Milagros Santiago, Scott McGovern, Sergio Boniche and Leslie Odri-Thomas.

Thomas is also survived by three brothers, Leo Lammers of Ruidoso, N.M., Greg Lammers of Williamston, Mich., and Roger Lammers of Ottawa, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Baltimore on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. A burial and a memorial Mass will be celebrated in Dayton, Ohio, on Friday, Feb. 27.
