Mary Adele Hill, 87, Of Rye

RYE, N.Y. - Mary Adele Hill of Rye, formerly of White Plains, died Sept. 12. She was 87.

Hill was born April 7, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Ernal and Della (DeFore) Bernard. Her family moved east to Woodstown, N.J., and she attended Manhattanville College in New York City, receiving her bachelor’s degree in music in 1949. After graduation, she taught at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich. After her marriage she settled in White Plains. She was a pianist. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in White Plains, where she served as organist and choir director for many years. She helped organize and direct the elementary school Glee Club, and helped produce many play productions at Our Lady of Sorrows School. She was also a parishioner of St. William Church, in Naples, Fla. She was a member of Westchester Country Club.

Hill is survived by her children, Charles (Lynn), Denise (Dillon), Jeffrey, Sharon (Ed Monk), MaryLou (James Avery), Jamie (Bill Skerpan), Tim (Nancy), David (Elaine), Pamela (Stan Kaczorowski), Chris (Phil Mascia); 21 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; and sisters, Doris (Tanner) and Gladys (Hill). She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Samuel Hill.

Calling hours are Monday, Sept. 15 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home Inc., 491 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, with Fr. John Quinn officiating at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 920 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains.
