Mariette Ladd, 87, Former Rye Resident

GREENWICH, Conn. - Mariette (Sis) Walker Ladd of Greenwich, and Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Rye, died Jan. 16. She was 87.

Ladd was born May 20, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Mariette Chandler Walker and Willard Foster Walker. She attended the Laurel School in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from The Madeira School in McLean, Va. and Briarcliff College in New York. She lived in Rye after her marriage. She ran a glue factory in Brooklyn, N.Y., during the war and was on the governing board of her family's company, The Cleveland Container Company. She was active in fundraising activities for the United Hospital in Rye, N.Y. She held numerous positions in the Rye Twig organization including Program Chair for the Westchester Golf Classic (then known as the Thunderbird Classic) and vice-chairman of the first May Fair, a fundraising event at Playland Amusement Park in Rye. She was a member of Rye Garden Club and Hortulus of Greenwich.

Ladd is survived by her husband, Delano Wood Ladd, Jr.; daughters, Cynthia Ladd of Guilford, Marcy Champagne (Chip) of Winnetka, Ill., Susan Rogers (William) of Dover, Mass., Margot Brady (Sean) of Riverside; sons, Delano W. Ladd, lll (Nancy) of Rye and Willard F. W. Ladd (Katarina) of Riverside; 17 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Willard Foster Walker, Jr.; and granddaughter, Emily Prescott Rogers.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at The Community Church of Vero Beach Chapel in Vero Beach Fla. There will also be a celebration of Ladd's life April 5 in Greenwich.
