Leonard F. Schindo, 92, Of Rye

RYE, N.Y. -- Leonard F. Schindo, a lifelong resident of Rye, died in New Port Richey. Fla., on April 22, while visiting his daughter.  He was 92.

Schindo was born on June 1, 1923, to Frank and Clara Schindo. He graduated from the Rye school system and excelled in sports. He was an avid golfer and managed to score fourteen holes-in-one during his lifetime. He especially enjoyed his days of golf at the Rye Golf Club, long morning walks on the Playland boardwalk and Tuesday night pizza with his brother, Ed, and friends. He served in the Pacific with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

After the war he served for 32 years as the court clerk for the city of Rye. 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen, two daughters, Kathie Bender and Carol Schindo, granddaughter, Danielle, and grandson Louis Bender Jr., son-in-law Louis Bender, and two brothers Frank Schindo and Ed Schindo. 

He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Bisignano and a brother, William Schindo. 

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Len's life will be held on May 6, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, 910 Boston Post Road, in Rye.
