Jane Marie Hagele, 89, Of Rye, Retired Head Nurse, The Osborn Home

RYE, N.Y. - Jane Marie Hagele, a longtime resident of Rye, died Dec. 2. She was 89.

Hagele was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Port Henry, to Richard and Anna Curran. She graduated from the local high school. She moved to Westchester to attend St. John's Riverside Hospital-Cochran School of Nursing. She graduated in 1947 as an RN. She did her internship with the U.S. Cadet Corps providing nursing care in U.S. hospitals for returning World War II veterans.

In 1947, she first practiced her nursing skills at United Hospital for three years. She joined the staff of Visiting Nurses of Westchester. In 1959, after her marriage she moved with her family to Rye. In 1971, she resumed her nursing career at The Osborn Home retiring as head nurse in 1989.

She was a member of the St. Monica's Mothers' Club and a parishioner of the Church of The Resurrection. She was a member of the Rye Senior Citizens.

Hagele is survived by her children, Thomas M. Hagele (Gale), Margaret Hagele Hogben, Piper Horn, Anne M. Beguiristain; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas.

Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.. at the William Graham Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at The Church of the Resurrection followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
