George N. De Filippo, 84, Of Rye

RYE, N.Y. - George N. De Filippo, a lifelong resident of Rye, died on Tuesday, May 5. He was 84.

De Filippo was born on Dec. 6, 1930, to Gelsomino De Filippo and Elizabeth Melillo De Filippo, graduating from Rye High School in 1948 and serving in the Navy during the Korean War.

He returned home and served as a member of the Rye Police Department, retiring at the end of 1992 after 37 years and going on to work with the Rye Marina Commission and Rye Recreation.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, three children, daughter Caryn of Harrison, two sons, Thomas of Stanton, Ky. and James of Port Chester; four grandchildren, Lindsey Garcia of Mamaroneck, Michael De Filippo of Providence, R.I., Amanda Chaney of Stanton, Ky. and Holly De Filippo of Stanton, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Boone and Lilly Chaney and Ty and Alison De Filippo.

Visiting hours will be on Friday at the Graham Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Church of the Resurrection on Saturday at 9 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in De Filippo's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
