Gaetana Ricci, 103, Formerly Of Rye, Language Teacher

STAMFORD, Conn. - Gaetana Liberati Ricci of Stamford, formerly of Rye, N.Y., died Dec. 30. She was 103.

Ricci was born in San Donato, Italy, in 1910. She immigrated through Ellis Island with her parents and settled in Port Chester, N.Y.

She graduated from the College of New Rochelle with a bachelor of arts degree and was a teacher of English, Latin and Social Studies in both the Port Chester and Rye school systems. She was a resident of the Edgehill Community in Stamford for the past 14 years. Before that, she resided in Rye, N.Y., where she raised her family.

Ricci was a 25-year volunteer at United Hospital and the Rye Association for the Handicapped and was a Girl Scout troop leader.

Ricci is survived by her daughters, Susan Ricci and Elaine Leegstra (Ruurd) of Greenwich; and sister, Rita Kunz, of Columbus, Ohio. She was predeceased by her husband, Nunzio Ricci.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at the chapel of St. Catherine of Sienna Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ricci’s name to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, 461 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT 06906 or to a charity of choice.
