RYE, N.Y. – Francoise Carbonneau LoPonte, 94, a longtime resident of Rye, died Saturday, April 11.

She was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Ottawa, Canada, to the late Hector and Corinne Carbonneau.

LoPonte came to the United States in the 1940s to pursue a singing career in classical music.

She performed at Carnegie Hall, St. Paul’s Church, and St. Mark’s in The Bowery. She worked with composer Edgar Varese before nodules cut short her days of singing professionally.

Survivors include one son, Marc (Mark) of Rye; one brother, Gaston Carbonneau of Ottawa, Canada; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Felix LoPonte, preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Church, 910 Boston Post Road, Rye.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Rye Art Center, 51 Milton Road, Rye.
