Edward H. Burdick, 79, Of Rye, Retired Wayfarer Ketch Corporation Executive

RYE, N.Y. -- Edward Hyde Burdick of Rye, formerly of Larchmont, died Sept. 5. He was 79.

Burdick was born in Chicago, in 1935, He lived in Larchmont for 47 years as well as Philadelphia, Detroit, Brooklyn and Wilmington, N.C. 

He graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1953 and from Cornell University in 1957 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. In 1964, he graduated from Harvard Business School with a master's in business administration. He briefly worked for the Air Reduction Company. In 1968, he began a 28-year career working for the Rockefeller family office, retiring in 1995 as president of its Wayfarer Ketch Corporation.

Burdick is survived by his wife, Margaret MacCallum Burdick; sons, Andy (Sarah) and Ted (Aileen); sisters, Barbara Gallagher and Jane Burdick; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Betsy.
