Dr. James F. Murray, 93, Of Rye

RYE, N.Y. – Dr. James F. Murray, a dentist and a Rye resident for nearly 48 years, died at the Osborn Pavilion on March 5. He was 93.

Murray was born in Manhattan on Sept. 29, 1921, to James C. and Mary Burke Murray.

He graduated from Regis High School in Manhattan in 1939 and from the University of Notre Dame, cum laude, in December 1942.

He enlisted in the Army in February 1943 and served in the Signal Corps in Europe during World War II.

After the war, he earned his degree in dental surgery at St. Louis University and set  up a dental practice in the Bronx.

He married Jean Mary Hayes in 1953, and they moved to Rye in 1967.

Murray was predeceased by brother John and sister Anne, and is survived by two sons, James and Robert, daughter-in-law Rita, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
