"Bal," as he was known by friends and family, was born May 29, 1920, in Abington, Mass.
His favorite activities included watching sports, playing golf, listening to music, dancing and traveling.
He was a well-known obstetrician/gynecologist in Westchester County and at Port Chester's former United Hospital, with an office in Rye, until his retirement in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Balchunas of Westminster, Colo.; daughter, Nancy Keehner of Boulder, Colo.; son and grandson, Christopher and Spencer Balchunas of Durango, Colo.; brother, Louis Balchunas of Florida; and sister, Frances Gnong of Massachusetts.
Services will be private.
