LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Corrado Iovenitti, 78, a resident of Larchmont for the last 37 years, died Sunday, Dec. 28, after a brief illness.
Born May 23, 1936, in Paganica, Abruzzo, Italy, he was a son of the late Luigi and Augusta Iovenitti.
Iovenitti emigrated to the U.S. from Italy in 1976 at age 40. He spoke no English but within six years had opened a tailor shop on Palmer Avenue in Larchmont. Businesses followed in Stamford, Conn., and Rye. He founded the Connecticut/Westchester Tailors Association to foster camaraderie among its members and to promote what he felt was an underappreciated craft. He was a member of the Calabria Society and La Societa’ Sciaresi D’America, both of New Rochelle, and the Italian American Civic Association of Vero Beach, Fla., where he maintained a vacation home.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Diane; one son, Justin (Susan) Iovenitti; one daughter, Lisa (Jesse) Endo; one brother, Elio Iovenitti of Louisiana; one sister, Gioconda Tudico of Ontario, Canada; and three grandchildren.
Six brothers, Dante, Giustino, Don Gustavo, Orlando, Mario and Francesco, preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Saturday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Sts. John & Paul Parish, 280 Weaver St., Larchmont. Interment will be private.
Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel , New Rochelle, handled the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
