Barbara Owen, 65, Formerly Of Rye

RYE, N.Y. – Barbara L. Owen, a former resident of Rye, died of cancer July 14 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She was 65.

The daughter of William Farrell and the late Anna Baluski Farrell, she was born April 5, 1947, in Port Chester. For the past 15 years, Owen worked as a special-education teaching assistant for Dutchess County Boards of Cooperative Educational Services. A 29-year resident of Poughquag, N.Y., she was also employed by Premier Abstract in Poughkeepsie.

Owen is survived by her father, William; three sons, Jason (Jana) Owen, Andrew (Jennie) Owen and Christopher Owen; three sisters, Cathleen Montimurro, Vickie Cox and Jackie Wellott; and three grandchildren. Her husband, Michael R. Owen, predeceased her.

Calling hours are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McHoul Funeral Home in Hopewell Junction, N.Y. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction. Private interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye.
