The hospital will have a fashion show featuring a group of breast cancer survivors, a physician panel discussion at Bloomingdales and a series of educational events and fundraisers throughout the month, according to a press release. Representatives said they will be "turning the hospital pink" all month, according to the release.
“We are excited to ‘shine the light’ on breast cancer this October,” said Dawn French, vice president of marketing and community relations at White Plains Hospital in the release. “Most of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer, and by raising awareness, we hope to help patients undergoing treatment, as well as encourage screening and early detection. We appreciate the great response we have received from community partners and look forward to a series of successful events.”
The events continue at 8 a.m. Tuesday with Brake for Breakfast, "where participants can pull up at the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center on Longview Avenue, pick up a quick and healthy complimentary morning meal and receive the latest information on screening and detection from experts in breast care," according to the release.
There will be a Zumba fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Love Dance and Fitness Studios in White Plains, "where everyone is invited to put on pink and join in an evening of fun giveaways, health information and Zumba," according to the release.
Una Hopkins, D.N.P. will emcee a panel discussion at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at Bloomingdale’s that will feature four White Plains Hospital physicians with expertise in breast cancer: breast surgeon Dr. Sunny Mitchell; radiation oncologist Dr. Randy Stevens; hematologist/oncologists Dr. Julie Monroe and Dr. Sara Sadan; and radiologist Dr. Caren Greenstein, according to the release.
"Myths and facts about the latest in breast cancer will be discussed, followed by a Q&A with the audience," representatives said in the release. "The cost for the event is $25, which attendees will get back in the form of a gift card to spend at the store’s beauty bar."
Nearly a dozen breast cancer survivors from the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center will celebrate their survivorship in the “Walk of Hope” fashion show at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Westchester Mall, according to the release. The event will feature the survivors modeling the latest designs from Kate Spade, Rebecca Taylor and Club Monaco. In addition to the show, the hospital is scheduled to co-host a breast cancer health expo at 11 a.m. that day at the Westchester Mall, according to the release.
