RYE, N.Y. - Frog calling, bird feeding and garden workshops headline the first weekend of Spring in Rye.
-Frog Calling at the Rye Nature Center, 6 p.m.
Local preschool and elementary students are invited to go frogging in the Nature Center's ponds. The program is $5 for members and $8 for non-members and is not a drop-off program. The event takes place at the Rye Nature Center, 873 Boston Post Road.
- Rye Brook Indoor Farmers Market , 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Rye Brook's Indoor Farmers Market offers everything from fresh vegetables, to flavored pastas, to homemade pepper sauces, to handmade jewelry. The market also features a cooking demonstration from Port Chester personal chef Maria Reina. The market will be held in the AJP Senior Center located at 32 Garibaldi Place.
- Project Feeder Watch for Children , 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Barbara Matthews of the Audubon Society comes to the Rye Free Reading Room located at 1061 Boston Post Road to show kids how to make bird feeders out of beverage cartons. Participants should bring a clean half-gallon milk or juice carton and will be able to take their feeder home, fill it with seed and watch the migrating birds swoop in for a snack.
- Middle School Black Night Light , 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Area middle school students donned in white and neon clothing are invited to the Rye YMCA to light up the night. The event will feature a DJ and admission is $5. The YMCA will also be providing glow sticks, necklaces and pizza. The Rye YMCA is located at 21 Locust Avenue.
-Family Garden Workshop, 12 p.m.
The Rye Nature Center is partnering with the Rye YMCA to offer a series of workshops that focus on the healthy, ecological and nutritional benefits of gardening at home. The workshop will be led by Mike Krug and the suggested age is five to 12. The event takes place at the Rye Nature Center, 873 Boston Post Road.
- Irish Tea and Tales , 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m..
The Rye Storytellers guild is hosting this special event inside the Rye Free Reading Room featuring three notable Irish storytellers. Irish tea, cheeses and soda bread will be served.
