One top story involved Pierce Crowley, the 15-year-old Rye boy who was found safe nearly six days after he was reported missing in White Plains.
Crowley was reported missing May 25 after last being seen in White Plains near the Metro-North railroad station. In the days following Pierce's disappearance, family and friends launched a massive search and awareness campaign, utilizing social media sites.
A Facebook page entitled "Find Pierce Crowley" was created and quickly accrued almost 7,000 "likes." On Twitter, celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Keith Olbermann tweeted Pierce's missing-person flier.
Pierce was found six days later at about 12:30 a.m. in Washington Heights by two NYPD officers checking out a group of kids. He was quickly returned home to his family.
Crowley’s family later donated $1,000 to the Rye Police Department for its efforts in searching for their son. In a handwritten note to Police Commissioner William Connors and the Rye Police Department, Pierce’s father Peter J. Crowley called the money a “down payment” on the family’s thanks.
“You respected our space, watched our house, looked into possible places where Pierce could have been and beautifully coordinated with the White Plains Police who were quarterbacking the effort,” wrote Crowley. “The Crowleys feel fortunate to be in a community like Rye where we are safe, loved, and responded to.”
