RYE, N.Y. -- According to an advisory message released by Rye Police late Tuesday evening, the fugitive who fled from state police after a routine traffic stop has been apprehended and is in custody.
Julian Brown, 30, of Massachusetts, was arrested by Rye Police Department at approximately 5:45 pm on Tuesday and charged with two felonies and three misdemeanors after crashing his 2011 Dodge Avenger on Oakland Beach Road yesterday afternoon attempting to flee from New York State Troopers, police said.
According to Sgt. William Collins of the New York State Police, Brown was pulled over by a state trooper for speeding heading north on I-95. As the officer approached the vehicle Brown sped off the exit and onto Playland Parkway. After crashing his car at the intersection of Milton Road and Oakland Beach Road in Rye, Brown fled on foot.
Brown fled in the direction of Rye High School, Middle School and Midland Elementary causing an hour lockdown on the schools campuses, police said. The lockdown was released and students were dismissed on time after police believed that Brown was out of the area.
According to state police, Brown has multiple outstanding warrants in New York City, one of assault and four of criminal sale of marijuna. Police also confirmed that there was a passenger of the vehicle who was not arrested.
