  • A main break near Blind Brook released sludge into Long Island Sound on Monday, causing county officials to shut down several beaches, including Rye Beach. The public was allowed back into the water Wednesday after tests showed there was no risk to public health.
  • Rye City Schools announced the Teachers of the Year this week. Rye High School psychologist Iris Arest and Milton kindergarten teacher Karen Kozan were commended for their dedication to their students.
  • The Rye-based nonprofit Helping Hands for the Homeless & Hungry is seeking volunteers for its 26th annual Empty School Backpack Project. The charity is hoping to provide backpacks filled with school supplies to 2,000 students in August.
