RYE, N.Y. -- The seasonal ban on leaf blowers in Rye will begin May 1. Both gas and electric leaf blowers are prohibited from being used until Sept. 30.
The City Council passed the seasonal ban on leaf blower use back in 2008 in response to concerns raised by residents over air quality and noise. Lawn mowers and outdoor vacuum cleaners are permitted, except between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. on weekends.
Police sent out a message asking residents to remind their landscapers about the ban.
