School's Out for Summer in Rye

RYE, N.Y. -- Fourth grader Colin Kovacs went straight to a friend's house to play video games after his noon dismissal on the last day of class at Midland School.

"We basically partied all day," said Colin, 9.Students in Rye had their last day of classes Thursday, officially kicking off summer vacation. However, not all of summer is going to be video games for Colin. In fact, he has some studying to do.Colin's father Steve Kovacs brought him to the library Thursday afternoon and assigned him some viewing materials in preparation for the family’s upcoming trip to the American Southwest."We got some cowboy movies," said Kovacs, holding a stack of ten DVDs. "All the John Ford ones."

Colin will visit Arizona, Utah and Nevada for the first time. Just like in the old cowboy movies, he'll get to see the Grand Canyon, saguaros and tumbleweeds.Unlike the old cowboys, however, he'll pay a visit to Las Vegas  where he's certain to play lots of games.
