If you get a phone call from an alleged police chief from Greenwich, Conn., beware.

The real Greenwich police chief is not phoning Port Chester area residents about outstanding warrants in Connecticut. At least not this week.

Police said the latest telephone scam has an imposter calling and telling the intended victim that he is the Chief of Police James Heavey and that the Greenwich Police Department has a warrant for their arrest for failing to go to jury duty. The impersonator also tells the victim that "this is an urgent matterĀ that has to be handled right away or the police will be coming to get them."

The intended victim is told to go to a Rite Aid, Walgreens or CVS to pick up a non-traceable gift card which is the preferred method of payment of the police department and they must call in a payment immediately.

Police have received complaints about the "Greenwich" police chief scam from as far away as California.
