RYE, N.Y. -- The Women's Club of Rye took in pre-registered art submissions for its annual scholarship fundraising art show Tuesday afternoon at the Rye Free Reading Room. "This is our way of supporting the arts through an appreciation for the arts," said Kathleen Reese, who is co-chairing the 59th Annual Beaux Arts Exhibition. Every year the Women's Club encourages local residents, from students to retirees, to submit paintings and sketches for competition, raising money for a college scholarship for at least one high school student pursuing the arts. Money is raised through registration fees paid by the artists.
The registration period closed Oct. 5, but the full amount of money raised will not be announced until the gallery show awards ceremony Saturday. The submissions will be judged and winners announced at the Rye Free Reading Room from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to all members of the public. "It's nice to see the community participate and share their creativity," said Reese.
