RYE, N.Y. – Eighteen hours after the polls closed in Rye, only 57 percent of the vote has been reported counted from Rye voting districts, and no one seems to be able to explain why.

Eight of the 14 districts in Rye reported vote totals early Wednesday morning, a number that has gone unchanged by Wednesday afternoon, according to unofficial tallies of election results posted on the county's website. The results of the City of Rye’s two bond referendums remain too close to call.

Proposition one – a $176,000 bond for improvements to the Rye Free Reading Room - was passing by a mere 13 votes,1,165 to 1,152 votes. Proposition two - the $1.68 million proposed bond referendum to fix infrastructure throughout the city - was failing by 2 votes, 391-389 votes.

Multiple calls to both the Westchester County Board of Elections and the Rye City Manager’s office were not returned by 3 p.m. Wednesday.
