Rye Teens to White Water Raft

RYE, N.Y.—Rye YMCA’s Teen Outreach Director Lou Caratelli is not running your average run of the mill summer camp. He oversees the Teen Adventure Camp, a program that certainly lives up to its name; campers are off-site every day, attending day field trips to places such as Six Flags amusement park, Splash Down Beach, and to top off the summer, a day long white water rafting trip along the Delaware River in Matamoras, Pa.

“It’s a laid back atmosphere where kids get to learn how to row in a raft, and are all given an opportunity to participate-they work together as a team to paddle correctly,” said Caratelli of the August 31 excursion. Novice rowers need not worry; a rafting instructor is provided to work with campers to help navigate the waters.

The rafting trip is open to all members of the community ages 12-15. Registration is $100 for Y members, and $110 for non-members. The fee includes transportation and a picnic lunch. Those interested in attending may contact Member Services of the Rye YMCA at 914-967-6363.
