RYE, N.Y. - The Rye City Board of Education will hold a public meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Rye High School media center regarding the search for a new superintendent.
Ryes current superintendent, Edward Shine, announced over the summer that he would retire at the end of the 2012 school year. Shine, 68, has served as the superintendent for 16 years.
According to a statement released by the board, the purpose of the meeting is to establish (a) direction for the selection process for the new Superintendent of schools.
At this meeting, (attendees) will have the opportunity to meet one or more of the consultants from School Leadership, LLC which has been engaged by the board to assist it in the search, said Board president Laura Slack via a letter addressed to Rye residents.
The letter also outlined the meetings agenda, stating that it would open with, the consultants describ(ing) the process and estimated timetable for conducting the search, and end with a participant discussion on three prompts provided by the board.
The board plans to take information from the meeting and condense it into a set of search specifications that will be up for approval in December. It asked those unable to attend Thursday's meeting to fill out this survey by Friday if they wish to have their voices heard.
