Rye Seeded First in Field Hockey Sectionals

ELMSFORD, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck (Class A), Rye (Class B) and Bronxville (Class C) were awarded the top seeds for the respective Section 1 Field Hockey Championships. The seeds were announced at the seeding meeting, Wednesday, at the office of Southern Westchester BOCES.

Mamaroneck (15-1 this season), Lakeland (15-1 this season), seeded second in Class B, and Briarcliff, seeded eighth in Class C, are the defending champions. Lakeland is also a two-time defending state champion. Bronxville, the 2008 Section 1 Class C titlist and state semi-finalist, is 13-2-1. Rye Neck, with a 10-2-4 record, is the second seed in Class C.

Two Class C first-round games are scheduled for Thursday with 2010 Briarcliff, a 2010 state semi-finalist, hosting No. 9 Hastings. Seventh-seeded Croton will host N0. 10 Pleasantville in the other game.

Class A will open first-round play, Friday, and Class B will commence with its’ first-round games, Saturday.

The sectional finals will be held at Arlington High School, in Dutchess County, Sunday, Nov. 6. The Class A and Class C title games will be played at 1 p.m. followed by the Class B game at 3 p.m.
