Rye Reflects On Summer of 2012

RYE, N.Y. - Rye Town Park was not as busy as it has been throughout the summer but several people still made use of it Monday as they enjoyed it for one last time this summer.

The National Weather Service reported the temperature in Rye to be 73 degrees on Labor Day, a far cry from temperatures in the 90s earlier in the summer. Rye resident Mark Singer was with his three children feeding the ducks at the park. Singer, who just moved to Rye with his family from Manhattan a month ago said he made use of the beaches and Rye Playland throughout the summer.

"We can walk around and have the kids outside," Singer said. "It's especially beautiful here. It's a lot easier to be here than in the city on hot days. We used to be holed up in our apartment but now we have a backyard."

Resident Sam Paredes was in the park on Labor Day with his daughter. Paredes said they spent the summer going to the beach, the pool and various parks. Now, Paredes is shopping for school supplies and looking forward to fall.

"This summer wasn't as hot as I thought it would be," Paredes said. "I thought there would be a lot more hot days."

Rye resident Barbara Gonzenback visited family in Switzerland during the summer. Gonzenback said the weather in Westchester County though hot and humid, is very nice compared to the weather in Switzerland.

"We worked a lot this summer so it's nice to be outside enjoying the day," Gonzenback said. "I hope the weather stays nice for the next few weeks."
