Rye Police Department Holiday Advisory

RYE, NY - The Rye City Police Department has released the following advisory for the holiday season.

The holiday season is a busy time for many of us, with the rush of holiday shopping and social occasions. It is also a busy time for criminals who seize upon targets of opportunity. Property crimes often increase during the holiday season, when people tend to leave valuables in their cars while shopping or while visiting, or when people have large amounts of cash or merchandise on their persons or in their homes. We ask that you protect your property and assist us in preventing crime by NOT leaving valuables in your car. If you must leave items in your car, please secure them out of sight in the trunk. If you have house guests, please encourage them to bring purses and other valuables inside, rather than leaving them in their cars. Please take appropriate measures to secure your home when you are out. If you hear or observe suspicious activity, please notify the police promptly by calling 911. Finally, to make the season safe for all, we ask that you don’t drink and drive. On behalf of the City of Rye Police Department, we wish you a very happy and healthy holiday season. Thank you.
