Lt. Scott Craig of the Rye Police Department confirmed today that three arrests were made over the weekend.
Rye merchants told the Daily Voice that police are encouraging local shop owners to file police reports to help build a broader criminal case against the trio.
Fake Benjamin Franklins recently turned up in neighboring villages, according to Lt. Craig. Similar arrests for counterfeiting phony $100s were made in March in Greenwich as well as in Rye Brook in 2011.
Additional details on the Rye arrests, including the names of the charged suspects, were not immediately available.
