Ed Grainger and John Carey, who were serving as Rye City Council members 50 years ago, and have since served as mayors, were set to speak at the Dec. 10 event, which starts at 7 p.m.

Student government representatives from the Osborn, Milton and Midland schools were invited to recite excerpts from the dedication speeches.

Construction of City Hall was financed by money donated by former Mayor John Motley Morehead, who died in 1965.

Current Mayor Joe Sack said residents can emulate Morehead's generosity by helping replace the original chairs in the soon to be refurbished Council Chambers at City Hall. A $250 donation will get a nameplate on one of the new chairs, Sack said. Click on this link to donate.
