The event brought teens, business owners and nonprofit organizations together to reflect on what was learned by interns and supervisors alike. Started in 2012, the town of Rye internship has seen 25 students successfully go through the program and had 18 organizations and businesses to participate.

In addition, it has given local organizations and businesses access to potential future employees. Over five weeks, the students worked at businesses, community organizations and government offices in the town of Rye.

This year’s program drew some new businesses such as Bow & Rose Florist; League of Women Voters of Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester; Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel; and Purchase Street Dental in Rye in addition to repeat customers like the Port Chester/Rye NAACP; the village of Port Chester and State Farm Insurance.

Program coordinator David Thomas said the internship program is “a great way for kids to learn the soft and hard skills needed to be successful in the workplace.”
