Rye Increases Train Station Parking And Other Fees

The cost of a commuter parking permit will increase $40 per year for both residents and non-residents to $760. The change represents an increase of 5.5 percent. Mayor Doug French said that the plan is to use the money from the fee increase to finance an upgrade to the parking lot. The city will need to have discussions with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and design a capital project for the upgrade.

There also will be a number of building-fee increases. The fee for installing a generator will more than double, from $140 to $300. The charge for changing approved plans will increase $150 from $100 to $250. This increase is due to the fact that changes in approved plans often require land use boards to re-evaluate the changes. There will also be an increase in the penalty for starting work without a permit, from $1,000 to $1,250.

There will be some minor increases in the cost of Rye Recreation’s day camp of between $5 and $30. The cost of renting facilities, tennis courts and softball fees will also increase between $1 and $15. For the first time the city will be able to charge between $27 and $65 for Freedom of Information Law requests, though the charges will only be implemented for requests that take more than two hours to process.

The City Council adopted the fee increases in a unanimous vote at its June 12 meeting. The fees will go into effect at the beginning of the 2014 fiscal year on Jan. 1.
