Rye High School Hazing Case Adjourned Again

RYE, N.Y. ? The case of three Rye High School students charged with felony assault during an alleged hazing hazing incident involving several eighth-graders was adjourned once again at the request of the teens’ attorney.

The three juniors allegedly forced several incoming freshman students into a car in front of the Rye Free Reading Room, drove to the Marshlands Conservancy in Rye and paddled two of the younger students with a large piece of wood, according to a statement made by Westchester Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth in June. The paddling caused bruising and other injuries to the students' buttocks and legs and one was treated at a hospital for his injuries, Longworth said.

The defendants – Max Meyerson, 16, Sean Pinson, 17, and Tristan Scragg, 17 – were arrested June 1 and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and two misdemeanor charges of hazing and unlawful imprisonment. The Westchester County police and the Rye Police Department investigated the incident.

The case was originally adjourned on July 21 at the request of the defense and rescheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Rye City Court. According to a court official, it was adjourned late Monday night and will reconvene Oct. 9 at 9 a.m.

At the teens’ arraignment June 12, all three pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor hazing and unlawful imprisonment charges. No pleas were entered on the assault charges.
