Rye Helps Make Movie Magic

RYE, N.Y. - The city got a taste of Hollywood Thursday when scenes for the Julianne Moore movie “The English Teacher” were filmed in Rye.

Police warned that traffic could be disrupted on Purchase Street from Boston Post Road to Smith Street and on Purdy Avenue. The film stars Moore, Greg Kinnear and Nathan Lane being directed by “Weeds” director Craig Zisk.

The cast and crew have been in town since Wednesday, when they began filming inside of Ruby’s Oyster Bar and Bistro. At about noon Thursday, Kinnear and Moore shot a scene on the sidewalk in front of Great Stuff, Royal Jewels of Rye and Aurora Restaurant.

The crew is expected to film inside Arcade Books Friday. The crew also filmed in Dobbs Ferry and Sleepy Hollow Wednesday afternoon.

According to IMDB, the film stars Moore as an English teacher whose life is changed when a former student returns to her small town after failing as a playwright in New York. The movie also features Nathan Lane and Greg Kinnear among others and is scheduled to be released in 2012.
