Rye Heat Calls for Longford's Ice Cream

RYE, N.Y. -- Tommy Sulliman just moved back to Rye with her family from the scorching Arizona desert, so the recent heat wave was no big deal. But a hot day was a hot day and she knew exactly where to go for ice cream, Longford's Own-Made."It's really delicious," said the seven-year old as she enjoyed a spoonful of blue and green swirled "Party Cake"-flavored ice cream.Temperatures hit a high of 92 degrees Thursday but felt closer to 98 degrees with the humidity.

Customers were flocking to Longford's for gelato, frozen sorbet and, of course, its handcrafted ice cream.

Tommy spent most of the day indoors watching television and playing with her puppy before she insisted that her older sister take her to get ice cream."I want ice cream. It's so hot outside," she had said.

Tommy may be coming back for more Friday with an expected high of 98 degrees that could feel closer to 108 degrees with the humidity. The heat index will come down slightly to 100 degrees Saturday with isolated showers and thunderstorms. The temperature is expected to drop near 89 degrees Sunday with more storms. What is your favorite flavor at Longford's?
