RYE, N.Y. – Playland Parkway is closed from Milton Road to Playland Access Drive in Rye for the duration of the storm, the city announced Monday afternoon.
The full effects of Hurricane Sandy are expected Monday evening in the city of Rye, with the possibility of record coastal flooding, tidal surges of six to 11 feet and wind gusts up to 75 miles per hour. The city is urging residents of vulnerable, low-lying areas to relocate for the remainder of the storm.
There is an emergency shelter at Rye Country Day School in the Upper Gym off Grandview Avenue. There are additional Red Cross shelters at both Port Chester and Mamaroneck high schools.
The city has suspended garbage collection on Tuesday.
