RYE, N.Y. The City of Rye Police Department has issued an advisory message regarding safety for New Year's weekend. Given the tendency for people to consume higher amounts of alcohol during the holidays, the police's message centers on drinking responsibly.
"Please remember the danger of mixing alcohol and driving," the advisory said. "Don't drink and drive." The message said that the police department will dispatch roving DWI patrols as the holiday approaches.
The police department also included in the advisory multiple recommendations to help reduce drinking and driving this weekend. Among the police's recommendations are designating a sober driver, utilizing public transportation and increasing awareness of potential drunk drivers at New Year's parties.
The department even cited the old adage, "Friends don't let friends drive drunk." Police also requested that you notify local law enforcement immediately if you see a drunk driver on the road.
