Rye City Council Revisits Rezoning Old Post Road Building

RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye City Council will revisit zoning legislation for a proposed development project that would create a four-story housing complex in the Westchester County city.

With recommendations from the Rye Planning Commission, the city council will again examine the rezoning of 120 Old Post Rd., which sits in a B-4 zone. The B-4 zone restricts properties to office building use only, according to The Rye City Review.

The proposed project would create a 135-unit, age-restricted, four-story housing complex. A vacant three-story building currently occupies the lot.

Jonathan Kraut, who represents the building owner Old Post Road Associates, proposed creating a RA-6 zone, which would allow for active senior residential housing, according to The Rye City Review.

City council officials expressed concerns over local schools and the availability of affordable housing, as well as aesthetics and the effects of increased traffic.

The project returns to the docket on Aug. 5 at the Rye City Council meeting.
